On Thursday May 10, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) issued a notice on its website that the new Rules governing the Maine Medical Use of Marijuana Program, originally intended to take effect February 1, 2018, are now effective as of May 10. Governor Paul LePage previously instructed DHHS to delay the Rules’ implementation until May 1. Now, as of May 10, the new Rules are effective, and will govern Maine’s medical marijuana program until they are amended or revoked through agency rulemaking.
The new Rules, which will be administered by the Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS), bring about several important changes that will affect Maine patients and caregivers, including inspections of caregivers by the department without notice. A summary of these changes can be found here.
